Look out for animals that are not with the rest of the herd.

Look for any bodily discharges.

The animal’s eyes should be clear and alert. If they appear dull or sunken, it indicates illness.

Any animal which is suspected of being ill should be observed for a few minutes, feeding and walking around. The dung and urine are observed to see if they appear normal. Sick animals will be off their feed, while some conditions such as Milk Fever will be noticeable by the cow staggering when walking around.

The animals coat should be healthy looking, and the correct colour. The skin should not feel tight
