Readymix vs Home Mixed Concrete

Readymix concrete, 35 Newton costs between €60-70 per cubic metre delivered.

To make a cubic metre of 35N concrete at home you would typically require the following:

  • 330kg of cement = 13 No. 25kg bags = 13 * €4.20 = €54.6
  • 2 tonnes of gravel @ €5 per tonne = €10
  • Labour mixing
  • Fuel burned mixing

As this clearly demonstrates, readymix concrete works out cheaper every time. If you are laying some concrete floors around the farm yard, your time is best spent compacting the foundation for the floor and setting up the screeds, not mixing concrete!

Calculate the amount you require and give your local concrete companies a call for prices.

In addition readymix concrete is likely to be more uniform in consistency and strength than a home mixed batch.
