Steps required to produce the Safety Statement:

Step 1 – Identify all the hazards present, that may lead to minor or serious injuries and death.

Step 2 – Risk Assessment needs to be carried out for all the hazards identified. This involves determining have likely it is that an incident will occur, and the possible consequences of the said occurrence.

Step 3 – Identify any possible Preventative or Control Measures that could be implemented to eliminate the risk.

Step 4 – Could a substitute be found to eliminate the hazard?

Step 5 – Control Measures could be put in place to contain the hazard.

Step 6 – Could Personal Protective Equipment be used to protect the individual. This should be usually the last choice if the other options are not feasible.

Step 7 – Put in writing – Tasks that are recorded to be done are less lightly to be forgotten or neglected.

Example - Identifying a hazard and listing up to three things which you can do to prevent or control this hazard.
