Maintenance of an Ice Bank Bulk Milk Tank while not in use

During the Winter if all the Cows are not milking for a period of time the Ice Bank Bulk Milk Tank can be turned off. However a number of precautions should be taken to avoid costly repairs


  1. The tank should be completely washed and inspected following the final collection.
  2. The power to the compressor can be shut off completely, however the tank control box should remain on to reduce the chance of a moisture build up.
  3. The compressor should be switched on for 5 minutes once a week.
  4. The chilled water pump should be switched on for 5 minutes once a week.
  5. The agitators should be switched on for 5 minutes once a week.


Before recommencing supplying milk the tank should be switched on and washed to ensure that it is working correctly
