Short term methods of increasing grass utilisation

Practicing strip/block grazing for the majority of the year, thus ensuring that paddocks are well grazed before moving stock to the next. A back fence could also be used to ensure animals do not re-enter previously grazed areas.

Avoiding poaching during wet weather by making proper use of Farm Roadways.

Cutting a paddock for silage when it gets too strong.

Long term methods of increasing grass utilisation

Practicing a Reseeding programme thus ensuring that only high quality grasses are present in the sward.

Ensure water troughs are centrally located so to minimise distance walked by the cattle, thus reducing the amout of grass trampled.

Ensuring that adequate roadways are in place on the farm. Having multiple entrances from the roadway into paddocks will help reduce poaching during spells of wet weather.
